Melvin Spry, 515 Centennial lost his life in an explosion of nitroglycerin at the Hercules Powder Mill west of Carthage. He was 32 years old and had been a Jasper county resident all his life. He was the son of Lewis E. and Ida E. Monett Spry. He was married to Mamie Cole Spry. She survived him. According to his Missouri Death Certificate he was buried in Park Cemetery under the direction of Ulmer-Drake Funeral Home.
