Warren Bruce McCoy, a lifelong resident of Wilmington, died suddenly on December 7, 2012.
Bruce grew up at the family home in Chatham, North Wilmington and graduated from Brandywine High School. At an early age, he discovered a great love for playing the trumpet. As a teenager, Bruce had the opportunity to compete with the American Youth Jazz Band at the Paris Jazz Festival where he was honored with an individual award. After high school, Bruce went on to play with many bands including Patchwork, Airport Road, Group Therapy, The New Beginning, JazzTech and Red Hot and Blue. He took great pride in writing and recording his own original pieces, some of which were featured in films, documentaries and stage productions. One of the highlights of his career was performing with the Temptations. In addition to music, he worked for many years for E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Company, Inc. as a Senior Analyst. The greatest joys in Bruce's life were his large family, close friends and loving wife and children with whom he celebrated and shared his unconditional love. Bruce was a strong supporter and delegate of the Delaware Republican party and treasurer of his neighborhood civic association. He was happiest when fishing, spending time with loved ones, watching movies with friends or shooting with fellow members of the Delaware State Pistol Club.
Bruce is preceded in death by the love of his life, Peggy Healy McCoy. He is survived by his 2 sons, Mark D. McCoy (K. Ann Horsburgh), Matthew D. McCoy (Allison Ralston), 1 daughter, Erin Lockard (Ryan); 1 brother, D. Scott McCoy (Kathy); 3 granddaughters, Elsie, Violet and Ruby; and mother, Adelaide McCoy. Bruce's father, Edwin McCoy died in 1995.
Services will be held on Tuesday, December 18th, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Shipley & Weldin Rds., Wilmington, DE, with a visitation from 10 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 p.m. Interment will follow the Mass at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests honoring the memory of Bruce McCoy by sending a contribution to the American Cancer Society , 92 Reads Way, New Castle, DE 19720.
