LeRoy Arthur Farmer, 80, of Marshall, died Monday, oct. 23, 1995, in home after a long illness.
He was born Aug. 20, 1915, in Eckford Township to Merl and Julia (Reese) Farmer and had lived in the Fredonia and Eckford areas all of his life.
He was employed at Burr Engineering as a machine operator for 15 years before retiring in 1979. He also had worked at Woodlin Metal, was a watch repairman at Sandack Jewelers in Marshall, was employed as a mechanic at Tidey Motor Sales, Stembol Ford, the Marshall Kaiser-Frazier dealership and Martin Motors in Albion. For 10 years, he also had a rural Marshall Chronicle paper route.
He married Doris A. Bushre on May 31, 1936, in Eckford Township. She survives.
Also surviving are sons, Arthur D. and Spencer H. Farmer of Marshall; daughters, Joan Pehrson, Barbara Perkins and Diane Martin of Marshall; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers, Edward Farmer of Parma, Darrell Farmer of Albion and Robert "Bob" Farmer of Eckford; and sisters, Doris Alexander of Kalamazoo and Marie Butler of Marshall.
He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Farmer in 1960; a grandson, Michael J. Farmer; brothers, Carl, Merl, Milo and Wilbur Farmer; and a sister, Ora Morris.
Community involvement, hobbies: Member of Lyon Lake United Methodist Church, where he was a lay leader. Served as president of the board at Wright School. Was a union trustee at Woodlin Metal. Enjoyed going to garage sales and collecting antique hand tools, especially hand saws. Was known in the family as "Mr. Fix-it".
Visitation: At the Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home, Marshall, where the family will be present from 2 to 4 p.m and 6 to 8 p.m.
Services: 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Nelson Ray officiating.
Burial: Lyon Lake Cemetery.
Memorials: Good Samaritan Hospice Care.
