REV CHARLES GARVEY

Many friends from this village were saddened to hear of the passing of Rev Charles B Garvey last week at St Catherine's Hospital in Brooklyn. Rev Garvey, who was about fifty-eight years of age, was pastor of the Church of St Boniface Martyr, Sea Cliff, LI.

Father Garvey was born in Cutchogue, the son of the late Charles and Ellen Burns Garvey. He attended school at Cutchogue and at St John's University in Brooklyn and Niagara University, Niagara Falls, NY. He was ordained in 1917 and served as curate in several Long Island churches, later receiving his first pastorate at St John's Church in Bohemia, LI, and also served as pastor of St Rosalie's Church in Hampton Bays and Church of St William the Abbott, in Seaford, LI. It was in 1937 he became pastor at Sea Cliff.

Surviving are four sisters, Anna, Alice, Elizabeth and Bernadette Garvey, and two brothers, Clarence and George Garvey.

Interment will be at the Sacred Heart cemetery in Cutchogue on Wednesday afternoon.
