Civil War Service - John enlisted as a substitute on Apr 1 1865, age 19, for 1 year. He mustered as a Private in Co G 18th OVI on Apr 1 1865, in the Veterans unit. He mustered out with the unit on Oct 9 1865 by order of the War Department. He filed for an invalid's pension on Sep 12 1891 which was approved - Cert # 961126. His wife filed for a widow's pension on Feb 13 1911 which was approved - Cert # 718971.

John married Mary J. Benedict on 01 Sep 1871 in Trumbull County, Ohio. They had one son: Burton L. Morris b 1873 in Braceville.
