Spencer, a wealthy young Philadelphia driver, a bridegroom of only 2 months, was fatally injured along with his mechanic, John Jenter, in a high speed crash, while being pressed for the lead by Bob Burman.
Driving with his indifference to danger he tried to pass a machine on the 13th lap. The wheels touched and Wishart's machine crashed into a fence and turned over. He was hurried to the hospital where he died with his wife at his side.
Spencer was interred in this location on November 11, 1915. Where he was moved from is a mystery.
