Kayla wrote this on November 11, 2011 - 395 days before her death:

"I worry sometimes about my death.
No, it is not that I fear the idea of it or am scared by the obvious fact that I will perish; but more of what I would not have done before my time is gone and the clock stops.. Dying with a sputter and a last puff of gas.

Would I have stood at an altar before the reckless truck driver swerved into my lane? Did I endure nine months of pregnancy, would I be a mother that has beautiful children before I am taken?

What to think, what to do, I ponder about my ending– If I’ll ever meet you in the light or just stand in the fires and darkness, drowning in guilt or floating with prosperity.

If I were to have no more seconds of breath, my heart beat dropping to a flat line..
When, where, how would it happen?
Could bubbles trickle from my unspeaking lips, does the mind stop working before or after?"

Russian spelling: Кайла Елианна Кемпбелл

Cherished daughter of Stephanie and Robert Campbell, sister of three.

Kayla was described as a bright, ambitious and compassionate girl who loved photography. She was vivid, vibrant and way beyond her years. She was a talented poet and painter. Her favorite colors were lime and purple. Kayla dreamed of being a teacher and looked forward to have children one day. She dreamed to dance pointe ballet professionally. She enjoyed metal music and she was a big fan of books. Kayla was a night owl and loved to have her private tea parties at night. She ran track, loved biking and was very active in sports. Her hair was two feet and eight inches long and she was very proud of that. She always said she could have lived on rice, peanutbutter, chocolate, cookie dough, energy drinks and coffee.

Kayla's earthly life was cut short at the age of 16. Her death was ruled as an accidental drowning.

More poems written by Kayla:

"Please never forget me,
Even when my ashes are
Spread across the sea
And my hollow heart is
Up in the sky,
Let your memories roam,
But only without pain.

Remember me for the good things.
The hours we stare into clocks,
Wondering how they started to tick.
The paintings that are strewn upon
Our walls, black and white,
Color the life that I gave you,
The life that you gave me."

"I found my ashes
In the wind as the sky
Fell and split before
Fire bitten hands that
Listen to the dirt and
Breathe with water
Inside of my fragmented
Chest pumping, jumping
Honeysuckle’s nectar
Safely saving my skin
And pressing a mold of
Death back together again."
