Ora "LeOra" Marie Palmer of Columbia, Missouri, died Saturday, August 11, 2001, at Lenoir Healthcare Center. She was 87.

Ms. Palmer was born April 25, 1914, in Morning Sun, Iowa, to William Frederick and Marie Elizabeth Taeger Broeker.

She graduated from Morning Sun High School in 1931. On August 15, 1936, she graduated from the John C. Proctor Hospital School of Nursing in Peoria, Illinois, as a registered nurse. On May 30 1937, she married the Reverend Charles M. Palmer in Peoria.

Ms. Palmer moved to Columbia in 1960. She was a member of Broadway Christian Church. She worked at Lenoir Retirement Community and Woodhaven Learning Center. She also volunteered at Boone Hospital Center.

"She cared for other people all her life," Orville Broeker, Ms. Palmer's brother, said.

Family was very important to Ms. Palmer. She liked to spend time with family in Morning Sun, Iowa. She spent a lot of time embroidering with her sister-in-law.

"One time, she brought some of the children from Woodhaven out to visit us for Easter, because they didn't have anywhere else to go," said Grace Broeker, Ms. Palmer's sister-in-law.

"She always spent summers with us," Grace Broeker said. "She will be greatly missed, let me tell you."

Services, conducted by the Reverend Kim Ryan, were at 10:30 am Wednesday at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 17 W. Ms. Palmer was buried at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Ms. Palmer is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Orville and Grace Broeker of Morning Sun; two sons, Jerry Palmer of Coon Rapids, Iowa, and Jack Palmer of Reston, Virginia; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A daughter, Joellyn Marie Palmer, two brothers, Albert Broeker and Wallace Broeker; and a sister, Clara O'Lague, died earlier.

Orville and Grace Broeker, Morning Sun, and Larry and Shirley Smith, Wapello, attended services for Ms. Palmer.
