Joseph Ernest Van Winkle of Elwood, died in the Mercy hospital, Elwood, Feb, 7 according to word received here today. He was born in Windfall Jan. 1879, and attended school there. He was the son of Joseph W. and Emily (Legg) Van Winkle and was married to Miss Tressa Fay Swihart of Elwood, who preceded him in death in 1923.
Mr. and Mrs. Van Winkle were the parents of two sons, Joseph of Muncie and James Francis of Elwood.
Funeral and burial services were held in Elwood where he had resided since marriage.
Survivors are the son of and two grandchildren, Tonia Leah and Joseph IV; one sister, Mrs. Leota Johnson, and a niece, Mrs. Ernest Loveless, of Kokomo. His brother, Bert Van Winkle, died in 1895.
