Canuto J. Martínez, age 84, a longtime resident of Rainsville, NM, passed away on Tuesday, December 11, 2012, at New Mexico Behavioral Institute in Las Vegas, NM.
Canuto was born on May 21, 1928 in Rociada, NM to the late Abel Martínez and Eloisa Montoya-Martínez.
Canuto was united in marriage to Eva Marrujo. Canuto worked at the Salman Ranch then was self-employed during his cowboy years buying and selling cattle.
A lifelong Catholic he was a member of St. Gerturde Catholic Church, in Mora, NM.
Canuto was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Martínez, parents, Abel and Eloisa Martínez, brothers, Alfonso Martínez, Alfredo Martínez, George Martínez and Eugenio Martínez, sisters, Eumelia Durán and Florence Durán.
Canuto is survived by his sons and daughters, Andy Martínez (Susie), Annabelle Mora and her husband, Roger, Patsy Montoya and her husband, Rudy, David Martínez and Marvin Martínez (Lorraine) all of Rainsville, NM, Carla Martínez and her special friend, Emo of Las Vegas, NM, former daughters-in-law, Ella Martínez of Holman, NM and Berna Durán of Albuquerque, NM, grandchildren, Frances, Andrew, Kenny, Andrea, Andy Jr., Madeline, Gary, Lisa, Adolph, Dennise, David Jr. and Loretta, 23 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Rosary services will be held on Friday, December 14, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. at St. Gertrude Catholic Church in Mora, NM. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, December 15, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Gertrude Catholic Church in Mora, NM with Father James Sánchez as celebrant. Interment will be at the Santo Niño Cemetery in Lower Rociada, NM with the following serving as casket bearers, Gary Mora, Adolph Montoya, Derek Pino, David Martínez Jr., Andrew Martínez and Kenny Martínez. Serving as honorary bearers will be all his remaining grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
