Death claimed Mrs. T. J. Deen, 83, at her, home at Bassfield at 9:30 A.M. Saturday after a two weeks illness which terminated a long period of ill health.
Mrs. Deen was a native and lifetime resident of her home community in Jefferson Davis County and was a long-time member of the Santee Methodist Church. She was the former Artie King.
Several years ago Mrs. Deen had been spent a period of four years in Columbia in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Allen Dobson, and had visited here often numbering many Columbians among her friends.
She was the widow of T. J. Deen who preceded her in death by about sixteen years.
Funeral services were held from the Santee Methodist Church near Bassfield at 3 P.M. Sunday. Officiating was the Rev. Mr. Courtney, pastor, assisted by the Rev. Mr. Smith, pastor of Bassfield Methodist Church.
Interment was in King cemetery near Bassfield with Colonial Funeral Home directing. Pallbearers were nephews of Mrs. Deen.
Surviving are tour daughters, Mrs. Allen Dobson, Mrs. Curtis Matheny, and Mrs. Lucy Davis of Columbia and Mrs. Owen Cole of Oakvale; one son, Daniel Deen of Bassfield; one sister, Mrs. Mary Speights of Columbia; three brothers, Johnny, Lafayette, and McKinley King of Bassfield; twelve grandchildren; and several greatgrandchildren.
