He was the son of the late John Akers and the late Margaret Miller. He is also preceded in death by his wife: Floie Lewis Akers and three brothers: Walter, Dillard & Dempsy Akers.
He is survived by step-mother: Barbara Akers of Scuddy, KY; two sons: Danny Ray (Chyrl) Akers of West Liberty, KY & Willard Lee (Deliah) Akers of New Albany, IN; one daughter: Margie (Arvil) Young of Lily, KY; one sister: Tina Sue Sizemore of Colsum, KY; three brothers: David Akers of Hazard, KY, Joseph Akers of Georgetown, KY & Johnny Akers of Hazard, KY and a host of grandchildren; great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
