During this time he was awarded several Air Medals as well as the Distinguished Flying Cross. After his discharge from the service, Don enrolled at UW Madison in September of 1945 where he met and fell in love with his future bride, Patty Ryan. Don and Patty (PJ) were married in September 1947. In January 1948, Don joined the Roddis Plywood Corporation eventually becoming its General Manager for the State of Wisconsin.
