After the North Dakota territory opened for homesteading, Peter's father and several other men from that area went to North Dakota. His father filed on 160 acres of land in Crowfoot Township, Mountrail County, ND. His father built a homestead shack and in the fall of 1902 he brought his family, the cattle, and the other livestock via train to Kenmare, ND.
On May 22, 1926 Peter married Selma Gunhilda Hallan, daughter of Hans Petersen Hallan,(b 1843) and Tora Landsem, (b. 1872).
Peter and Selma had 7 children.
