Williamsport Gazette & Bulletin:

Joseph Stinton Childs of the sawmill firm of Woods & Childs of Cammal fell unconscious and died Monday evening of heart disease. He had been in his usual state of seemingly good health. Mr Childs is survived by one daughter and three sons, Odie, Harry J, Bradley and William. his wife died about a year ago. The funeral will be held tomorrow at 3 PM at his home at the corner of Broad and Cemetery Streets, interment in Jersey Shore Cemetery.
The History of Lycoming County by Collins
Joseph S Childs received his education in the common schools & in the Dickinson Seminary. He learned the trade of millwright from his father. He engaged in the lumber business on Hoagland Run from 1865-1872. He came to Jersey Shore & entered into partnership under the name Martin Wood & Childs.
The built a large mill at Jersey Shore, one on Pine Creek & one at Cammal. Mr. Childs was a man of great force of character, independence & enterprise. He was greatly respected & highly esteemed by all who knew him. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. In politics he was a Republican.
He was married in Mucy on Jan 25,1866 to Miss Mary Elizabeth Mecum. They were the parents of 9 children.
