Samuel's parents were Daniel T. Wieland and Catherine E. Keller. One of at least their 15 children, he was adopted by Samuel Heilman and Mary Keller (his aunt).

Funeral services were held Tues. afternoon for Samuel W. Heilman, late of 619 West Main Street, Palmyra, at Hill Evangelical and Reformed Church, north of Cleona. The funeral was held from the Smith Funeral Home, Palmyra, where the body was viewed by a large throng of people on Monday evening, and by many others who attended the funeral today. There were many floral tributes attesting to the high esteem in which the churchman was held.
The Rev. Thomas Matterness, of Lebanon supply, pastor of the church, and the Rev. Pierce E. Swope, pastor of St. Stephen's Reformed Church, this city, were the officiating ministers. Leroy Miller, Charles Shultz, Harry Smith and Victor Henry, were the bearers. Burial was at the Palmyra cemetery.
Smith Funeral Home, Palmyra, was in charge of arrangements.
