He was born May 22, 1967 in Oconee County, S.C., to Verlin Keener and the late Flossie Lillie Moore Keener. He graduated from West Oak High School in 1985. He was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by: two sons, Daniel Lee and Cody Michael Keener; a brother, Robert E. Moore; his paternal grandparents, James and Beatrice Keener; his maternal grandparents, Charles Peter Moore and Josie Moore Wilson; and an uncle, Virgil Moore.
Survivors include: his father, Verlin Keener of Rabun Gap; his wife, Treesa Sanford Keener of Westminster, S.C.; a son, Barry James Keener of Blue Ridge; two daughters, Amanda Leigh "Clair" Keener and Kristina "Soffee" Keener, both of Walterboro, S.C.; a brother, Sheldon Keener of Pelzer, S.C.; a sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Tim Cooper of Westminster; an uncle, Merrill Moore of Brevard, N.C.; an aunt, Bertie Brewster of Anderson, S.C.; 12 nieces; and one nephew.
