Cecilia M. Elchert, 94, of Tiffin and formerly of New Riegel, passed away on Monday, December 10, 2012 at her residence.

She was born on September 15, 1918 in Salem Twp., Wyandot County, to Sylvester and Theressa (Karcher) Boes. On January 29, 1944 in St. Michael Catholic Church, Findlay, she married George H. Elchert, who preceded her in death on February 12, 2004.

Also preceding her in death were her parents; 2 brothers, twin brother Cecil Boes and Clarence Boes.

Cecilia was a 60 year member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in New Riegel, their Altar Rosary Society and at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Tiffin the past 8 years.

She attended a one room country school in Springville and Carey and as a young lady, she helped her father and brothers on a 245 acre farm between Arcadia and Findlay. After her marriage to George she continued to farm, milking cows for over 33 years and never missing a milking, raising chickens, hogs, and her favorite, lambs. She considered herself a farmer as she worked in the fields. Her proudest accomplishment was cutting 80 acres of corn with a one row binder and a team of horses. She planted a large garden for many years, canning and freezing her own fruits and vegetables for her family and enjoyed entering and winning many awards for her canned goods and vegetable displays at local county fairs. She assisted her husband George for many years butchering for neighbors and friends around the new Riegel, Bascom and Tiffin area.

Cecilia was a member of the McCutchenville Grange for over 65 years, holding several offices during that time, Allen Eiry Senior Center where she had a great time playing Euchre, and a 4-H member as a young girl.

She enjoyed quilting and was known for her pies and especially for her potato salad which was requested by many people in the area.

In addition to her farming and being a homemaker, she showed her true compassion and love for people as a caregiver for her father and brother in law. Her greatest enjoyment was being around people, she never met a stranger. Anyone who met her walked away with fond memories of a sweet and caring person.

Her Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, December 14, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. Burial will follow in St. Boniface Cemetery, New Riegel. A Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to the Mass.

Friends may visit with the family from 2-8:00 P.M. on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424. A Christian Wake Service will begin at 1:30 P.M.

Memorial contributions may be made to Calvert Catholic Schools Tuition Assistance Fund, St. Joseph Catholic Church or All Saints Parish, New Riegel.
