Robert Samuel Tribble, 85

Robert Samuel Tribble, 85, of Pendleton, formerly of Louisville, died Monday, Aug. 25, 2008.
Born in Shelbyville March 6, 1923, he was the son of James Jones and Newell Grace (Hulette) Tribble.
A four-great-nephew of Daniel Boone, he was very proud of his Kentucky pioneer heritage. During World War II he served as a radar technician with the 233rd AAA Searchlight Battalion in the South Pacific. He remained active with their reunion activities and edited their newsletter.
He attended the University of Louisville and worked in research and development at the E. I. Dupont neoprene plant in Louisville for 27-1/2 years. He loved to travel and in addition to the Fiji Islands, New Guinea, and the Philippines, he visited all 50 states, Mexico, Canada, and Europe. He was a charter member of Preston Highway Methodist Church, where he was Webelos leader, cub master, and assistant scoutmaster with Pack 24 and Troop 24 of the Boy Scouts. He was also a neighborhood commissioner and Mohawk District finance chairman. My Old Kentucky Home Council recognized his work with a President's Award and inducted him into The Order of the Arrow. He was a Kentucky Colonel and a member of the Society of Kentucky Pioneers. He was past-secretary/treasurer and past-president of the Lynnview Optimist Club. He helped train young basketball players at the Optimist basketball clinic each fall. Many went on to play at the college level. He also helped construct the Lynnview Community Building and was chairman of the Gilmore Lane Playground Committee. He was past-president of the Bedford Rotary Club, which earned many awards during his tenure. He belonged to the VFW, the American Legion, the Kentucky Historical Society, The Filson Club, and Kentuckians for the Commonwealth. He also supported many charitable organizations and played Santa Claus for several years.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Joan Lucille (Farnsley) Tribble, and three children: Robert Samuel Jr., (Jacqualine) Tribble, David Michael (Cindy) Tribble, Louisville, and Linda Joyce (Britt) Lindstrom, Lexington; grandchildren, Ben, Matt, Jordan Elizabeth, and Robert Samuel III (Sam), and great-grandchildren, Evan and Emerson Rose.
Services will be held at 12 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, 2008, at Highlands Family-Owned Funeral Home with burial in Grove Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville.
Visitation is today, Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008, from 2-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
