Doris H. West, 94, West Fargo, ND, formerly Casselton, ND, died on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at Sanford Health, Fargo.

Doris Harriett Dittmer was born on August 5, 1918 on the family farm near Leonard, ND to Carl H. and Ida (Rick) Dittmer. She attended country school and graduated from Lincoln High School in Casselton. She attended Jamestown College for one year and then attended Sisters of St. Joseph School of Nursing, Fargo. Upon graduating from nurse's school, she worked at St. John's Hospital in Fargo in the maternity ward. Doris married her high school sweetheart, Wayne West on July 19, 1941 at Bethel Moravian Church near Leonard. They made their home in Casselton where they owned and operated the West Funeral Home, Furniture Store and Ambulance Service. Doris was an active partner in the businesses and dedicated much time to the drapery side of the business. She worked side by side with Wayne in the funeral and ambulance business along with caring for the house and home. They enjoyed summers at Pelican Lake. Upon retiring, they enjoyed winters in Harlingen, TX for nearly 20 years and traveled with the Holiday Rambler and Good Sam Clubs. Wayne died on January 2, 1993. Doris later moved to the Park Avenue Apartments, Fargo in 1997 and to Sheyenne Crossings Apartments, West Fargo in 2009.

Doris and Wayne enjoyed dancing and weekly trips to the Fargo Eagles. They were members of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Casselton where she sang in the choir, was a member of the ladies aid and served as a Sunday school teacher. She was also a member of the Eastern Star. Doris loved her weekly bridge playing and knitting. She so enjoyed singing with her sister and other groups. Most of all, she loved her family and those that loved her.
