Grant M. Olsen passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 24, 2012. He and his twin sister Grace were born April 21, 1922 in Brigham City, UT. They were the 9th and 10th of eleven children born to Oliver W. and Pauline Korth Olsen. He graduated from Box Elder High School in 1940 where he excelled in football and baseball. He later played baseball for several local baseball teams and the Hill Field baseball team. During World War II he was called to serve as a crew chief for the P-38 Lightning fighter aircraft in the U.S. Army Air Corp., and served in both India and China. He retired from Hill Air Force Base in 1974 after 33 years of government service. His interests included hunting, fishing and watch repair.

Grant married Verla J. Steed on February 17, 1944, a marriage that spanned 68 years. Grant is survived by his wife Verla and two sons, Allen (Ilka) Olsen of B.C., Canada and Reed (Suzanne) Olsen of Kaysville, UT. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Whitnee (David) Evans of Clearfield, UT and Riley Olsen of Logan, UT. Also surviving are two sisters, Bertha Edwards, Tremonton, UT and Afton Ficarra, Plain City, UT. Grant was preceded in death by son Dean S. Olsen.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, June 2, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Clearfield City Cemetery, 1050 S. State St., Clearfield UT. Friends may visit family Saturday, June 2, 2012 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd.

In lieu of flowers, a contribution may be made in Grant's name to a favorite charity of your choice.
