D. Evelyn Higley Stephenson, 87, of Towanda, passed away Tuesday evening, Dec. 4, 2012 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre. Evelyn was born Feb. 24, 1925 in Elkland Township, Sullivan County, the daughter of Ralph and Lelah McCarty Higley. On Nov. 1, 1947 she married Harry A. Stephenson Jr. in Forksville. Her main interest in life encompassed her home and family.

Evelyn enjoyed cooking, baking, reading and watching television.

She is survived by her son, Robert E. Stephenson of Towanda; twin grandchildren, Debbie (Cory) Noell of Harrisburg and Eric (Sara) Stephenson of Harrisburg; great granddaughters, Victoria and Savannah Noell of Harrisburg; sister, Arlene Brown of Troy; brothers Kenneth (Jane) Higley of Albany Twp.; Floyd (Sherre) Higley of Montoursville, Clinton Higley of Laceyville, Myron Higley of Sunbury and Gordon Higley of Las Vegas, Nev.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry A. Stephenson Jr. on April 29, 1981, brothers, Donald, Dale and Bruce Higley and sister, Helen Brown.

A private family funeral and committal service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 7, 2012 at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, with Rev. Robert Martin officiating.

Interment will be in Bradford County Memorial Park, Luthers Mills. There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be directed to the American Cancer Society, Bradford Unit, 1948 East Third Street, Williamsport, PA 17701-3945 in Evelyn's memory.
