Obituary for Kathleen Lois Walter

Kathleen Lois Walter, 85, of Kalkaska, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, December 9, 2012 in Kalkaska. She was born in Monroe, MI on August 21, 1927 to the late Forrest and Lois Heck. She lost her mother at an early age and was then loved by her step mother Helen. Kathleen's church was a very important part of her life since her grandfather was a minister that baptized and confirmed her at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Monroe. On July, 2, 1949 she married Clinton Walter, whom she met at the same church, and had three children. Kathleen graduated from Monroe High School, then worked for Secretarial Services of Monroe, Amendt Milling Co., and LazyBoy Chair Co. In 1959 the family moved to Kalkaska. Once again her church changed her life, when she learned to drive better so she could take her children to the nearest Lutheran Church in Mancelona. Kathleen was very active in the community, being a member and officer of: Ladies Home Extension Club, Kalkaska Elemetary P.T.A., Band Boosters, Kalkaska Memorial Hospital Auxillary(charter member), as well as working on many community activities. She was a faithful servant to God at St. Paul Lutheran Church, where she was a charter member in 1962, until she was no longer able to do so in the mid 2000's. Kathleen was in the choir and a member or an officer of: Ladies Guild, Altar Committe (chair for 26 years), Sunday and Monday School Teacher, and a general "worker bee" for nearly every special activity. For 35 years she was known to many as the "Avon Lady". Kathleen was a wonderful, loving and supportive wife, mother, and grandmother. She was very involved with all her family's activities. She enjoyed bowling and being a "Winter Texan" with her husband. Kathleen will be greatly missed by her husband Clint, daughter Susan Walter, son Douglas Walter, daughter Laura (John) Latham all of Kalkaska, grandson Jason (Becky) Walter of Livonia, sister Lucille (Richard) Arend, brother William (Bernice) Heck, sister in law Mary Walter, and many nieces and nephews, all of Monroe. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Marguerite Shields, brother in law Raymond Walter, and her special pet "Dottie" the daschund. Services will be held from St. Paul Lutheran Church in Kalkaska at 1:00 PM on Thursday, December 13, 2012 with final visitation beginning at 12:00 PM. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 12 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at Kalkaska Funeral Home, 152 S. Cedar St., Kalkaska. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed in honor of Kathleen to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 2470 Beebe Rd. NE, Kalkaska, MI 49646.
