He was born Oct. 6, 1927, in Sturgis to George and Beth Amy (O'Brien) Murphy.
He was a graduate of Battle Creek Central High School and attended Argubright Business College. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II.
He was employed for many years at Anderson Dairy as a milkman. He worked for the Teamster's as a truck driver for Post-Kraft Division until he retired.
He married Marilyn Ann Bruce on Oct. 6, 1956 in Battle Creek.
He is survived by his wife; sons, James W. Murphy, William P. Murphy and Danny W. Murphy all of Battle Creek; daughters, Sue Ann Kaufman of Tujuna, Calif., Linda Stanfield of Parchment and Carolyn Murphy-Carter of Battle Creek; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and a brother, Donald Murphy of Lakeland, Fla.
He was preceded in death by a brother. Dennis Murphy.
Community involvement, hobbies: He was a member of the Dexter Lake Church of God in Battle Creek. Enjoyed fishing with his children, walking at the mall and traveling.
Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. today at Shaw Funeral Home.
Services: 11 a.m. Friday at Dexter Lake Church of God with the Rev. Albert L. Woelver officiating.
Burial: Fort Custer National Cemetery.
Memorials: Family or Dexter Lake Church of God.
