Gigi was born at home on April 10, 1920. in what was then known as the Westport District of Modesto. She passed away on December 7, 2012 after a lengthy illness. She was the only child of Peter Damiano and Emma (Brunetti) Mini.

As a child, she moved with her parents to the Napa Valley and later to Oakland, California. Gigi graduated from Oakland's Emerson High School and then earned a degree in Business Administration at San Francisco State College. Gigi was always employed.

As a young woman she worked alongside her mother at a small dress making factory in Oakland. In the Modesto area she worked at the downtown J.C.Penney's, creating newspaper ads. She was employed by the State of California at Modesto State Hospital and then transferred to the Employment Development Department where she worked until her retirement.

During World War II, Gigi met the love of her life, a handsome sailor named Vernon Denton, who was serving in the Pacific Theater on the USS Cowpens, a light aircraft carrier. They were married in 1945 and spent many happy years together until Vernon's death in 1993.

Following retirement, she enjoyed volunteering but her main passions were her grandchildren and cooking, she loved to feed people.

Gigi was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Vernon. She is survived by her son, Douglas Buchanan (Marcia) of Yreka, California; her granddaughter, Kelly Buchanan of Modesto, California; her grandson, Vincent Buchanan (Lisa) of Sierra Madre, California; great granddaughters, Mercedes King of Colton, California and April Smith of Modesto, California; and her six month old great-great granddaughter, Casey Moore.

Gigi passed peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. We extend a heartfelt thanks to Shanti Prasad and Kelly Buchanan for the loving care they gave to Gigi.

A viewing will be held at Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, December 12, 2012 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Interment will be Wednesday, December 13, 2012 at the Veteran's Cemetery in Santa Nella, California at 10 a.m.

A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
