GERMAN VETERAN DIES. - Fred Arndt,
1145 East Nineteenth street North,
veteran of the German war of 1870
died yesterday at the age of 69 years.
He had been an employe of the Portland
Railway, Light & Power Company for many
years until age and illness forced him
to retire. Mr. Arndt belonged to the
Garde du Corps Regiment in Potsdam and
was present at the siege of Paris, where
he was decorated for bravery. Funeral
services will be held tomorrow at 2 o'clock.

GERMAN VETERAN'S FUNERAL IS HELD. -
Funeral services of Fred Arndt who died
at 1145 East Nineteenth street North,
Saturday at the age of 69 years, were
held yesterday from St. Paulus Church
East Eighth and Failiing streets, Rev.
Mr. Herbert officiating. He was a veteran
of the Franco-Prussian war of 1870, and
was present at the siege and capture of
Paris. He had been in the employ of the
Portland Railway, Light & Power Company
but had retired on account of illness and
old age. He is survived by two daughters,
Mrs. Hattie Chapman, of White Salmon, Wash.,
and Mrs. Amelia MacKay, of Everett, Wash..
Mr. Arndt was decorated for bravery at the
siege of Paris.
