  Henry Hess, Jr., of 4064 Maffitt avenue, St. Louis, died at 10:15 o'clock yesterday morning. He was born May 18, 1913, in St. Jacob, and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry [Anna Gieszelmann] Hess. At the time of his death he had reached the age of 29 years, two months and six days. He was married on August 27, 1938, at the St. Boniface Parish, by Rev. E.J. Eckhard, to Miss Viola L. Bast of this city. He was a welder by trade and was a member of the St. Mathew's Catholic church in St. Louis.
  Mr. Hess died from Landry's paralysis and was the first to use the new iron lung that was donated to the DePaul Hospital by the Teamsters' and Chauffeurs' Union, Local 600, of St. Louis.
  He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Viola L. Hess; one son, Richard Lee, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hess of Pin Oak, the following brothers and sisters: Joseph of Granite City, Earl and Ben of Pin Oak, Edwin of Jefferson Barracks, Mrs. Mamie Holtman of Pin Oak, Mrs. Emma Wessel of Edwardsville, and Mrs. Mabel Gieseking of Marine.
  Funeral services will be held on Monday morning at 8:30 o'clock at the Straube Funeral Home, and at 9 o'clock at the St. Boniface Catholic church. Rev. E.J. Eckhard will have charge of the service. Burial will be in St. Boniface Cemetery.
