Elizabeth Smith McDonald passed away on Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012, at 1:26 p.m.
Elizabeth, who picked up the nickname of "Boo", was a 1941 graduate of Coffee High School. During World War II, she worked for the Defense Department in Washington, D.C., where she met Eleanor Roosevelt, wife of the U.S. President and movie star Caesar Romero. She was employed for many years with the Utility Department of the City of Florence. Elizabeth was strong willed and did not hesitate to speak her mind.
Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband, Emory McDonald, a veteran of World War II; her parents, Robert Alexander and Ida Beatrice Smith; and brothers, Robert and Charles Smith. She is survived by her cousins, Glenda Smith, William B. Smith Jr. Bob and Fitz Hill; and nephews by marriage, Jack Parks and his wife, Leslie, Carl Parks; and niece, Vicki Putnam; and great nephews and niece, Jake Parks, Will Parks, Harris Parks and Emory Aran Parks.
A graveside service will be conducted at the Florence Cemetery on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, at 11 a.m. The funeral services will be conducted by Reverend Tim Murtaugh and Reverend Carl Gebhart, both of the First Christian Church in Florence.
