Lewis Meadows Allen, son of L. D. Allen, Sr. and Mamie Meadows Allen, was born in Person County, NC (Allensville) on August 11, 1921, and died Wednesday, March 6, 2013. He was the second of six brothers and a sister.

He graduated from Millbrook High School and entered North Carolina State University. He volunteered for the Aviation Cadet program in 1941 and received a 2nd LT commission in the Army Air Corps Reserve in 1942. He was assigned to the 91st bomb group as a bombardier on a B-17 crew and deployed to England in September 1921. His plane was shot down on the Schweinfurt Germany raid to destroy a ball bearing plant on August 23, 1943. He was captured by the Germans and held as a POW for 2 years. He did no let this define his life. He was liberated from the prison camp by Patten's 3rd Army.

He returned home and to NCSU where he earned his degree in ceramic engineering. He was a member of the Signma Nu Fraternity. He worked with Harbison-Walker refractories in sales and sales management in the cities of Pittsburg, PA, Birmingham, AL, Baton Rouge, LA and Charlotte, NC for over 30 years.

Lewis and his belowed wife of 60 years Olivia moved their ative life to Glenaire Retirement Community, in Cary, NC in 2002 where family and friends, old and new, competed to spend time with them.

He was preceded in death by his wife Olivia, his daughter, Olivia Garrett, his brothers and sister L. D. Allen, Jr., Caryle, Adrian and Katherene Patterson.

He is survived by two brothers, Korean War veterans, Jack and Bill and many Allen nephews and nieces-in-law. Lewis was much loved and we miss him alaready.

The memorial service will be held at the Glenaire Retirement Community in Cary at 2 PM on Saturday, March 9, 2013. His remains will be interred in Burchwood Cemetery in Roxboro, NC with his wife and daughter.
