Holiday Tragedy
At Fulton, Train
Hits Automobile

Fulton, Ky., Dec. 23–One prominent Fulton woman was killed and another was critically injured yesterday when the automobile in which they were riding was struck by an Illinois Central passenger train at the crossing here.

Mrs. E. M. Jolley, 40 wife of a Fulton restaurant proprietor, died in an ambulance en route to the hospital. She suffered a broken neck.

Mrs. E. R. Ladd, wife of the Rev. E. R. Ladd, Cumberland Presbyterian minister here, lay near death at a local hospital, physicians giving her little chance for recovery.

Mrs. Ladd and her husband came here to live about three years ago from Paducah, where Rev. Ladd was pastor of the Park Avenue Cumberland Presbyterian church.

The accident happened at 3 p.m. at the Browder crossing on lower Lake street. The train, bound for St. Louis from Memphis, struck the right side of car, opposite the driver’s seat and carried the machine 300 feet. Mrs. Ladd was driving the automobile.

The pastor’s wife, physicians said, suffered a broken jaw, several broken ribs and a fractured skull.
