Funeral services for Orville Raiford Williams (1909-1959), 42, of 5131 Yacht Club Road, Jacksonville, formerly of Palatka, were held today at 2:30 p.m. in the Johnson-Davis Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Oak Hill East Cemetery. Rev. Kenneth Hansen, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiated.
Active pallbearers were John Pace, Walter G. Odum, John Massee, R. D. Walker, E. E. McDaniels and W. F. Smith; honorary, Ollie Hall, Otto Murrhee, Sr., Otto Murrhee, Jr., Ed Gustafson, Dr. Roy Baker, Alvin Reitman, Frank Brown, Sen. Tom Adams, James Yonge, Frank Scruby, Joe Shands, Richard Lanman, Irving Woods, Saxton Lloyd, Bert Parker, Q.I. Roberts, George Hall, Sam Saunders, Red Anderson, Marion Sweat, the directors of Springfield Atlantic Bank, George Dandle, Don Reader, Bob Lee, Grant and others.
Johnson-Davis and Hardage & Sons Funeral Home of Jacksonville were in charge.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Julia Franey Williams; a daughter, Mrs. Richard L. Murrhee, Keystone Heights; two sons, James E. Williams, Jacksonville, and Ronald O. Williams, Gray, Ga.; two grandsons, Rickey and Timmie Williams, Keystone Heights; a brother, E. W. Williams, Palatka; and two sisters, Mrs. R. L. Glisson, Sr., Bostwick, and Mrs. L. F. Porter, Miami.
Mr. Williams was born at Bostwick and was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Luke C. Williams. He moved to Jacksonville from Fort Lauderdale in 1951 and operated Williams Buick agency until last February when he retired from the automobile field to go into the finance business. He was president of Williams Finance Co.
He was a member of Lemon Heights Baptist Church at Palatka; a past officer of the Florida Automobile Dealers Assn.; a member of the San Jose Country Club and the River Club, and was an Elk.
He recently was elected chairman of the board of the Bank of Orange Park, which soon will open. He was also a director of the Springfield Atlantic National Bank.
He was an honorary pallbearer at the funeral of Richard Hutchinson, a close friend who was buried in Jacksonville Memory Gardens, Friday afternoon. A block from this cemetery, after the services, he died from a heart attack. He had had a heart condition for several months. (Palatka Daily News Obituary dtd Monday, 16 Nov 1959.)
