Mrs. Alfred Jenkins Succumbs to Illness At Her Milton Home
May Sears Jenkins, 67, Was An Active Worker in Community
Mrs. May Sears Jenkins, 67, wife of Alfred C. Jenkins, died at her late home in Milton Sunday night after a short illness. Although Mrs. Jenkins had been ill health for several years her death came after a serious illness of only two weeks, due to a streptococcus infection.
Mrs. Jenkins was born in Milton, the daughter of the late Thomas F. Sears and Mary A. Newman. In 1905 she married Alfred C. Jenkins of Milton and has one son, Thomas A. Jenkins, also of Milton.
Mrs. Jenkins was an active worker in the Milton Presbyterian church and Sunday school, also the Women's Christian Temperance Union, the Milton Grange, the Maids and Matrons Community Club and the Needle-craft and Missionary societies of the church. She taught the primary department of the Sunday school for many years and was the church treasurer at the time of her death.
Surviving beside her husband, Alfred C. Jenkins and son Thomas Jenkins are two brothers, Herbert Sears and Thomas Sears of Milton; two sisters, Miss Carie Sears of Milton and Mrs. Joseph Bloomer of Marlborough and many nieces and nephews, one of whom, Miss Miriam Sears, made her home with Mrs. Jenkins since childhood.
Funeral services were conducted from her late home Wednesday afternoon at 2 P.M. by the Rev. Joseph Faivre, pastor of the Presbyterian church assisted by the Rev. Ralph Northrop, pastor of the Milton Methodist church. William Donaldson sang "Face to Face with Jesus," during the services.
Interment was made in the New Paltz Rural Cemetery, under the direction of J. Perry Woolsey. Bearers were Walter Clarke, J. Westervelt Clarke, Edgar M. Clarke, jr., C. Kenneth Taber, S. Birdsall Taber and William E. Rhoades.
