“Simon Mandlebaum, a well known and prominent business man of Detroit, suddenly and mysteriously disappeared while on a trip from Detroit to Cleveland on the steamer Northwest one night last week. It is supposed that while suffering from an attack of vertigo, to which he was subject, he fell overboard and was drowned. He leaves his large fortune to but a small family of a wife and one unmarried daughter.” Northern Tribune, Cheboygan, 13 May 1876 edition, pg. 1, col 7.
