            Martin Smith's Funeral.
The funeral of Martin Smith, whose death occurred at Retreat as the result of his drinking a bottle of indelible ink at that institution, was held yesterday afternoon from the home of his sister, Mrs. Roy Atwood, on Academy street to which the remains had been brought on Saturday. The deceased was aged about 40 years and had been committed to retreat some five years ago by one of the judges of Schuylkill county. The following sisters survive: Mrs. Edward Buckley, Mrs. Patrick Moore of Avondale, and Mrs. Roy Atwood. Services were conducted at St. Vincent's church, Rev. Father O'Malley officiating. The pall bearers were Charles Densmore, Thomas Virtue, William Quinn, Thomas Laughlin, Edward Delaney and James Duffy. Interment was in Welsh Hill cemetery.

Martin Smith, an inmate of the hospital at Retreat, is dying from the effects of drinking a quantity of indelible ink. In some manner the man got possession of the ink and gulped its contents down before he could be restrained. The act was committed while in a fit of insanity.
The victim was committed to Retreat five years ago from Schuylkill county by one of the judges of that county, it being learned at the time that the man's mind was unbalanced. He was a former resident of Plymouth and has friends residing there.
Dr. Mayberry informed the Times-Leader this afternoon that the man was still alive, but that there were small hopes for his recovery.
