William Warthen, an old and esteemed citizen of Ray Twp died Monday, the 1st. Mr. Warthen had been afflicted with palsy for several months. He was 87 years old, was a soldier and pensioner of the War of 1812, and was a pioneer in this county.

William Warthen came to Indiana from Tennessee at an early date and shortly after emigrated to Missouri. In 1835 he returned to Indiana and purchased the farm in Brown township in Morgan county that he lived on till he died. He was a member of the Christian church for nearly 30 years. He was a good husband, a kind father and an exemplary christian who was loved and respected by all.
