Youngest of 3 sons of James and Mary A. Wimbish of Clarke County, AL.

Company I, 5th Alabama Infantry, Battle's Brigade, Rodes' Division, 2nd Corps, Army Of Northern Virginia, C.S.A.

Enlisted 3/16/1862 at Grove Hill for a $50 bounty, he was mustered into "I" Co. AL 5th Infantry as a Private.
Wounded by gunshot 5/3/1863 in the Battle of Chancellorsville, VA; in C.S.A Hospital, Danville, Virginia 6/15/1863; transferred 6/22/1863 to Chimborazo Hospital #4, Richmond for both his wound and dysentery; returned to duty 8/19/1863.
Killed In Action in the Battle of Spotsylvania Court House, Va.

The 5th Infantry Regiment completed its organization at Montgomery, Alabama, in May, 1861, and proceeded to Virginia. Its companies were from the counties of Barbour, Clarke, Lowndes, Talladega, Dallas, Sumter, Monroe, Greene, and Pickens.

Reduced to a mere skeleton, the 5th Alabama participated in the battles of the Wilderness and Spottsylvania without severe loss. At Spotsylvania, it defended the "Mule Shoe" salient (May 8-21, 1864).
