Ruth K. Ellis

Ruth (Kirkton) Ellis, of Wrentham, where she has lived since 1917, died Monday, August 31, 2009 at the Pond Home in Wrentham. She was 99.
Born in Parsonfield, ME on December 9, 1909, she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Sarah (Hunt) Kirkton. She moved to Wrentham at the age of 8, and was educated in Wrentham. In her first year at Boston University, her father passed away, and she had to return home and help her mother with her younger brothers. She then took a job with an elderly woman whom had become an agent for the Telephone Company, for a mere $10.00 a week. Ruth met and married the late Alfred W. Ellis on December 27, 1952. She became the Chief Operator for the New England Telephone Co., on Kendrick St. in Wrentham for 30 years. She and her husband enjoyed traveling, opera, classical music and gardening. She was also very proud to be an avid Red Sox fan of over 55 years. She was a charter member of the Wrentham Historical Society, and was very active in the Original Congregational Church in Wrentham, and was its oldest member. She was also very involved in the “Circle of the Blind”. She was the sister of the late Donald and Lawrence Kirkton, and is survived by a niece, Sylvia Kellershon.
A Funeral Service will be celebrated on Friday, September 4, 2009 at the Original Congregational Church, on the corner of East and Dedham Streets, Wrentham, at 10AM. Visiting hours at the R. J. Ross Funeral Home, 135 South St., Wrentham, will be on Thursday evening 5-7PM. Burial will be in the Centre Cemetery, directly behind the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name may be made to the Pond Home, 289 East St. Wrentham, MA 02093.
