Enlisted 7/4/1861, he was mustered into "H" Co. AL 5th Infantry as a Private.
Wounded 5/3/1863 in the Battle of Chancellorsville, Va.
Killed In Action in the Battle of Spotsylvania Court House, Va.

The 5th Infantry Regiment completed its organization at Montgomery, Alabama, in May, 1861, and proceeded to Virginia. Its companies were from the counties of Barbour, Clarke, Lowndes, Talladega, Dallas, Sumter, Monroe, Greene, and Pickens.

Reduced to a mere skeleton by 1864, the 5th Alabama participated in the battles of the Wilderness and Spotsylvania, without severe loss. At The Wilderness, Rodes' Brigade stopped Union Gen. Warren's advance (May 5-6, 1864). At Spotsylvania, it defended the "Mule Shoe" salient (May 8-21, 1864).
