Herman J. Rixton
Herman J. Rixton, of Barryville, died on Saturday at 2:10 p.m. in Middletown. He was aged 79 years.
The surviving relatives are his wife, at home; one son Leon L. of Lackawaxen; one daughter, Mrs. Clara Doolittle of Glen Rock, N.J.; one brother, William, of Port Jervis and three sisters, Mrs. J.E. Steel, of Barryville, Mrs. Carrie Lasser, of Englewood, and Mrs. Joseph Nemire of Kingston. He is further survived by three grandsons, Fred Rixton, of Lackawaxen, and George and Robert Doolittle of Glen Rock.
The body was brought to the home of his son, Leon L. Rixton in Lackawaxen and the funeral will be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Congregational Church at Barryville. Interment will be in Montoza Cemetery at Barryville.

Herman J. Rixton Dies At Barryville
Herman J. Rixton, age 79 years, died on September 6, 1941. He had been in failing health for some time.
Mr. Rixton was born in Barryville on August 31, 1862, and spent his boyhood there and with the exception of the time while he was away teaching school he lived in Barryville all his life. Mr. Rixton was known throughout Sullivan County as a school teacher, and for many years was secretary of the Sullivan County Teachers Institute. It was an annual affair attended by all teachers.
He taught school at Callicoon, Hopkins, North Branch, Hortonville and Pond Eddy. After 29 years in this profession he retired and took a position in the store of James K. Gardner at Shohola, and worked there until about 12 years ago.
On March 10, 1887, he was united in marriage to Catherine C. Sutliff, who survives him. Three children were born two of which survive, L. Rixton, station master at Lackawaxen and Mrs. Clara Doolittle of Ridgewood, New Jersey. Three grandsons also survive. A daughter died in 1916.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon at the Barryville Congregational Church. Rev. H. I. Briggs and Rev. Ernest C. Bradner officiated. Mason services of Delaware Lodge were conducted at the grave. Mr. Rixton was a life member of the lodge. Burial was made at Montoza Cemetery in Barryville. Rasmussens of Narrowsburg in charge.
