Son of John Stanley and his wife Mary Fuller Stanley.

Benajah married two women named Olive. His first wife (unknown maiden name) was born 21 June 1783. They were married in 1812, and probably had several children as shown by the 1820, 1830, and 1840 census records. However, the 1820 was only after 8 years of marriage so they undoubtably had other people living with, perhaps even her children from a previous marriage since she was nine years his senior. She died 2 February 1849. Later that year Benajah married Olive Millington. In 1850 their first child was born.
