Hazel was born in Madison, Kansas, and moved to Oregon in the early 1940s. She met John R. "Dick" Beyerle in 1945 and married July 1946. They were married for 54 years. She and her husband owned Sellwood Greenhouses until retiring in 1972. In March 2004, she married Frank E. Ward, they had five years together before Frank passed away in November 2009. When she was no longer able to work in her garden, she had many house plants that she cared for in her apartment. She loved to travel, including all of the United Kingdom and Paris, France.

She is survived by one brother, Wyatt Long of Wichita, Kan.; daughters, Barb Stehlik and Beverly Smith; son, Robert Beyerle; stepsons, Adrian Beyerle and Darold Ward; stepdaughter, Sue Adkins; and many grandchildren. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012 at City View Funeral Home in Salem, Oregon. Interment will be in the Salem Pioneer Cemetery.
