Army Pfc. Ott was assigned to Battery B, 3rd Battalion, 18th Field Artillery Regiment, Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Ott and Sgt. 1st Class Gladimir Philippe failed to respond to a radio check during a sandstorm south of Balad on June 25, 2003. The soldiers' remains were located near their abandoned Humvee on June 28, 2003 in Taji. While in Iraq, he was in charge of guarding an ammunitions depot. Kevin went to Westfall High School where he was on the football and basketball team. He graduated in 1993 and then attended Bluffton College, 1993-94, where he played defensive end on the football team and coached his nephew’s Little League team. Kevin later attended Columbus State Community College. Before leaving for Iraq, he talked about finishing his degree through correspondence courses. Kevin had worked with a youth group and sang in the church choir in his hometown. He decided to join the military after the Sept. 11 attacks. While Kevin loved sports, his real passion was for motorcycles.
