Political Figure. At the time of his death, he was the longest serving mayor in the history of the United States. On September 22, 1949, he was appointed to fill an unexpired term as the Mayor of Richmond, Fort Bend County, Texas. After that, he won 32 consecutive elections, and served a total of 63 years as Mayor. He was the grandson of John Matthew Moore, Sr., Texas State Legislator, Secretary of State for the State of Texas, and the first United States Congressman from Fort Bend County.
