Jean F. Williams, 88, of Brady, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008, in Brady. Services were held Monday, Feb. 18 at First Christian Church of Brady, with Rev. Scooter Reed officiating. Burial followed at Rest Haven Cemetery under the direction of Heritage Funeral Homes. He was born Jan. 13, 1920, in Chick Springs, S.C., to Charles Courtney and Aura (Crowder) Williams. He married Betty Wiggington Nov. 14, 1943, in Brady. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1939-1951 and earned the rank of captain, was past president and charter member of the Brady Kiwanis Club, Cub Master, Scout Master and attained the highest civilian scout award, the Silver Beaver Award of the Boy Scouts of America. He was a member of the board of directors and recepient of the Distinguished Service Award of the Chamber of Commerce. He was a National Weather observer for over 30 years, an active member of the First Christian Church for over 60 years, member of the United Way, life member of VFW Post #3234 and past president of the Brady I.S.D. School Board. He was owner of Brady Butane for over 60 years. His two passions in life were flying and the youth of McCulloch County. He had flown since the age of 16, holding his flight instructor's rating until he was 85 and flew aerial photos for the A.S.C.S. for over 20 years.

Survivors include a daughter, Betzy Day and husband, Mark, of Brady; two sons, James Allen Williams and wife, Carla, and Courtney Williams and wife, Tanya, both of Brady; four grandchildren, Kent Day, Carrye Day Syma and husband, Jake, of Lubbock, Tyler Williams of San Angelo and Reed Williams of Stephenville; two great-grandchildren, Lella and Jacob Syma of Lubbock; a sister, Mary Whitmire of Signal Mountain, Tenn., and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Williams; his parents, Charles Courtney and Aura Williams and three brothers, Edward Williams, Floyd Williams and Charles Courtney Williams II. Memorial contributions may be made to the Concho Valley Boy Scouts or the First Christian Church of Brady.
