Otis F. "Otie" Anthony, 66, of North Platte, died Dec. 28, 2004, at the Central City Care Center in Central City.
He was born Jan. 22, 1938, to Walter and Leota Miller Anthony at their home in North Platte. He attended Cleveland Elementary School and Junior High School in North Platte. He graduated in 1957 from McPherson County High School in Tryon.
On May 28, 1956, he married Carolyn K. Cotton in Holyoke, Colo. He worked for Nash Finch, the State of Nebraska Experimental Station and the Department of Roads.
Mr. Anthony was a member of the Nebraska National Guard and was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad in North Platte and Cheyenne, Wyo., for five years. He and Chris Hayes owned and operated H & A Roofing. In April 1976, he went to work for the Burlington Northern Railroad at Alliance. He worked in Edgemont, S.D., for four years, then came back to Alliance. Otie retired in July 2000, after 30 years of railroad service, and returned to North Platte. He was a member of the Eagles, the UTU, was an avid card player, and loved to hunt coyotes with his dogs. He loved children, especially his grandchildren. Otie knew a lot of people and was recognized wherever he went. He was giving and generous to a fault, and a good friend to everyone.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn K. Cotton Anthony of North Platte; daughter, Kimra (Mark) Schipporeit of Kearney; son, Mark (Ranee') Anthony of Alliance; five grandchildren, Jenna, Brett and Amanda Schipporeit of Kearney and Cody and Morgan Anthony of Alliance; four sisters, Marilyn (Sotero) Ruiz, and Audrey (Jack) Clouse, all of North Platte, Elaine (Leland) Spanjer of Cozad, Dorla (Ivan) Keup of Texas; two brothers, Neil (Dixie) Anthony of Goldsboro, N.C. and Jim (Carolyn) Anthony of Grand Island; mother-in-law, Jack Cotton of Tryon; a sister-in-law, Reva (Bill) Coulter of North Platte; a niece, Rebecca Coulter also of North Platte; and special friends, Chris (Mitzy) Hayes of North Platte; and many other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jack Anthony; father-in-law John Robert "Bob" Cotton; a brother-in-law, Robert Cotton; and three nieces, Leanna Coulter, Lee Ann Spanjer and Rebecca Cotton.
Memorials may be directed to the family for research by the Alzheimers Association, and local Alzheimer Support Group functions.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church in North Platte. Burial will be at Miller Cemetery in Tryon.
Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, with the family receiving friends from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home in North Platte.
