Donald was a 1961 graduate of North Mecklenburg High School. He retired from Duke Power Company with over 30 years of employment. He was currently employed part time at Wildlife Woods Campground in Sherrill's Ford. He was a longtime member of the Mt. Holly Masonic Lodge 544 and the Oasis Shrine Temple. Donald was an active member of Lebanon United Methodist Church in Maiden and cherished his entire congregation. He was a dedicated volunteer with Meals on Wheels, Christian Ministries and many other community and charitable organizations. He was always available to help anyone in need and was especially kind to animals, children and elderly neighbors. Donald will be remembered by everyone he knew for his wonderful smile, quick wit and extraordinary acts of kindness. He had the heart of a lion and the gentleness of a lamb. Love is eternal and so shall be our memories of our beloved Donald. Those who were blessed to know him loved him with the unconditional love that he gave to others.
Donald is survived by his son, James Eugene Black of Columbia, SC.
Interment in Lebanon United Methodist Church, Maiden with Masonic Rites to follow.
