She was a homemaker, raising six children, and worked for the Boys Ranch office for eight years. While raising her family, she was a member of Pierce Street Baptist Church, now Second Baptist Church. The house she lived in was across the alley from the church and the Family Life Center now stands there. The whole family attended the church and were active members with the building of the church. She had lived with her daughter, Cherry Lane, for the last 16 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; two sisters; two sons, Charles and Richard; a daughter, Margaret; and six grandchildren.
