CENTERVILLE - Our devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend, Deverle Verner Kylen of Centerville, UT, returned to our Heavenly Father on Jan. 5, 2004 after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

Dee was born March 22, 1934 in Bluffdale, Utah to Verner Fredolf and Oliveia Pearl Stone Kylen. He spent his younger years in Bluffdale graduating from Jordan High School and the Salt Lake School of Electronics. He also attended BYU.

Dee married his sweetheart and eternal companion, Mary Bogedahl, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, September 13, 1956 cherishing 47 years together. Dee and Mary raised six loving children and lived for 45 years in Centerville. Dee and Mary enjoyed working in their yard and garden side by side. They also enjoyed spending time together traveling throughout the United States.

Dee worked for Hill Air Force Base as a Safety Engineer for over 30 years. Earlier in his career, he worked for Hercules as a Lab Technician.

Dee was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Dee served in many different calling including serving a Stake Mission in the West Jordan area, Bishop's Counselor, Assistant High Priest Group Leader, and many teaching positions. Dee was an active member of the Boy Scouts of America serving in many ward, stake, district, and council positions. He was awarded the Scouting Award of Merit and Silver Beaver. Dee was an active member of the Sons of Utah Pioneers.

Dee was a very dedicated dad and grandpa. He enjoyed camping, fishing, attending piano and dance recitals, and musical programs with his children and grandchildren. Dee was the happiest when surrounded by his family.

Dee had a great talent for oil painting and water colors and has given many paintings away to family and friends. He also enjoyed wood working and made lovely cedar chests for each of his four daughters. Dee also had a beautiful singing voice and enjoyed singing in the ward choir.

Dee is survived by his wife, children, Shauna (Shane) Holbrook, Woods Cross; Brenda (Roger) Stephenson, Woods Cross; Cary Kylen, Salt Lake City; Jeff Kylen, Centerville; Larna (Jay) Eubanks, Salt Lake City; Kristine (Geoffory) Anderson, Smoot, Wyoming; and 12 grandchildren. Preceded in death by sister Lawanna Roberts, and parents.

The family wishes to express their thanks to the Huntsman Cancer Institute doctors and nurses, the University of Utah doctors and nurses, the Lakeview Hospital doctors and nurses, and the Utah Odyssey Hospice nursing and staff for their loving and tender care of Dee.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 9, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the Centerville Canyon Ward Chapel, 160 S. 300 E., with Bishop Bud Hollingshead officiating. Friends may call Thursday, January 8 from 6-8 p.m. at the Lindquist's Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E. and again prior to services from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment Centerville City Cemetery.
