AMSTERDAM EVENING RECORDER Tuesday, November 26, 1968

FORT PLAIN—Funeral services will be held Wednesday for Charles B. Snell, 81, of 105 Mohawk St., Fort Plain, who died Monday at his home. Mr. Snell was sheriff of Montgomery County from 1930-32, and had also served as Minden town clerk.
He was born on Dec. 14, 1886, in the Town of Palatine, the son of John P. and Mary Catherine Briggs Snell. He was graduated from Dean Academy at Franklin, Mass., in 1908, and attended Brown University, Providence, R.I., where he was a member
of Gamma Delta Chapter of Alpha Tao Omego. Mr. Snell was a 50-year member
of Fort Plain Lodge 433, FAtAM, and a former master of the lodge. He was also past district deputy grand master of the Fulton-Herkimer-Montgomery District, and a member of Hiram Union Chapter 53, Royal Arch Masons, Canajoharie. He was a member of Otsquago Lodge 507, IOOF, Fort Plain, the Palatine Society, and the Universalist Church of the Messiah in Fort Plain.
Survivors include Marguerite Waters Snell, to whom he was married in Fort Plain on May 15, 1917; three daughters, Mrs. George Kornbrust of Bishop, Calif., Miss Lois J. Snell, Albany, and Mrs. Clyde Nellis Jr., Nelllston; five grandchildren, Kenneth, Mary Lou, Richard and Walter Nellis of Nellliston, and Catherine Ann Kornbrust, Bishop, Calif.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Gray Funeral Home, Fort Plain. The Rev. Lyman Achenback, former pastor of the Universalist Church of the Messiah, and the Rev. Michael Swan, rector of Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Fort Plain, will officiate. Interment will be made In the Fort Plain Cemetery.
