MANNING, Cyrus PRIVATE;
54th REGIMENT of INDIANA VOLUNTEER INFANTRY

BIRTH; 1842 . Henry IN

Deserted from Island 82, is Desha County, AR on January 19th, 1863.
Captured within days, he was paroled on March 29th, 1863 at Cumberland Gap, TN, and told to return home;
These were conditions of his parole.
He arrived at Camp Chase, in Ohio on April 25th, and admitted to the military hospital for chronic diarrhea. He was unable to recover, and died on May 9th, 1863;
date also listed as May 10th, 1863.
The desertion charge was removed January 26th, 1883.

Cyrus Manning died at Camp Chase, but his body was sent away.
Records from the microfilm roll at Ohio Historical Society Archives Library show Cyrus Manning's body as "Sent Away"....
